I don't like to pray...

I don't like to pray out loud. It is just not something that I feel comfortable doing. I never feel like I use the right words and I seem to repeat myself all the time. I also don't always know what to pray for. Here is a person who is in pain and can't speak and I'm supposed to pray something for them? Doesn't make sense in my head...

Don't get me wrong, I pray for every person I go and see. I love to hold their hand and pray over them. Just sometimes I talk to God about how I don't know what to say. I figure they don't either and I feel a connection to that. Driving around in my car is when I talk to God best. It's in those moments that God seems to listen best.

Who knew my truck would become my Holy Ground?

Keys to the car...

Today I got the keys to my new "car". The job is mine and I get to take it out for spin. It feels like the first day of school...a little nerve racking. I'm not really sure what to do or how to do it, but I think I'll be okay. I will probably over plan and over think a lot of things in the next week. I will miss my life as a youth minister. This one will be far different, but I'm thankful for the last eight years and how they have shaped me for today.

I never imagined I would be doing this. I never imagined I would jump from teenagers to old people in less than two months. I sat at Starbucks today with my fellow chaplains and realized that I am 40 years younger and a whole lot less qualified.

I have no idea what I'm doing, but I know I'm running towards something...

Day One (kind of)...

Everyone keeps asking me what I want to go and do. I really have no idea. I have spent a lot of time leaving and not very much time thinking about where I want to go. That would probably drive a lot of people crazy, but for me it's been okay. Yes, on day one, Im a little nervous about where and when I will land, but I feel like I know I will. If that makes any sense at all.

I really don't mind if no one reads this. I don't mind if in 50 years some one stumbles across here and reads about a guy who quit his job without having something else lined up. For me this is a way to process what Im going through over the next 60 days...after that my life will not look the same as it has over the last 8 years.

I imagine a lot of time spent in Starbucks just like this one, trying to keep myself busy and finding out what God wants to do with me. Here we go...

Offendedness

"If we are more opposed, for instance, to what we take to be "bad language" and nude scenes and films about gay people than we are to people being blown up, starved to death, deprived of life-saving medicine, or tortured, our offendedness is out of whack."
David Dark, The Sacredness of Questioning Everything

I agree...I think. How do we move people's offendedness towards this? Not that we shouldn't be offended by some of the things above, but we seem to stop short sometimes.

Laedin Crawling

Our Little Pretty Lady...

I can't believe that she is almost one! She continues to make Stacey and I laugh everyday. Who knew having a kid was this much fun? Shame on all you people who are downers to people having kids...kids are great! Yes, they make you mad (she wouldn't eat this morning!), but in the end I hope I remeber all the good things about her. I never want to be the parent that says, "Oh, their fun now...wait till they are teenagers!" Bring it on. Not to fast, because I kind of like version 1.o right now!

Birds, rain, and the need to create

Let's be real honest...I suck at blogging. I just refuse to find the time to do it and most of the time I have talked myself out of cert...
